Continuing Professional Development

CPD contributes to the delivery of good quality care and service provision. It is necessary for dentists by supporting them to maintain and update their skills, knowledge and behaviour throughout their working life. Section 29A of the Dental Council Act empowers the Dental Council to enter the name of a Dental Surgeon or a Dental Specialist in the Annual List subject to the practitioner having followed such Continuing Professional Development Courses or Training Programmes (CPD).

Section 29A of the Dental Council Act concerning CPD is reproduced below:-

Notwithstanding section 29 but subject to subsection (2), “no registered person shall have his name entered on the annual list unless he has followed such Continuing Professional Development courses or training programmes as may be prescribed by the Council”

TOPIC 1: Orthodontic treatment for the adult patient

NOTICE

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic rules and regulations the following conditions must be observed.

COVID-19 vaccination card certifying that the participants have been vaccinated with covid-19 vaccine must be presented.
In case participant has not been vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine, an RT-PCR test result slip certifying a negative result back to not more than 7 days from date of RT-PCR test was undertaken must be presented.

Continuing Professional Development - Year 2021

This is to bring to the attention of all registered dental practitioners that as per section 29(A) of the Dental Council Act, they need to accumulate not less than 12 CPD credit points duing the year 2021 for renewal of the Annual Practicing License for the year 2022.

Please note that the request to consider waiving of the requirement of accruing a minimum of 12 CPD credit points for the year 2021 has not been entertained by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

Also note that CPD points can be accumulated through approved online CPD courses or e-training programme.
